Six Sri Lankans were fatally stabbed in Ottawa.

OTTAWA: Six Sri Lankans, including a mother and four little children, were fatally stabbed with knives in the Canadian city of Ottawa late on Wednesday, according to police on Thursday. This shocking incident occurred in a nation where mass killings are uncommon.

Justin Trudeau, the prime minister, expressed his shock at what he described as a "terrible tragedy." The family's father is recovering in the hospital after suffering injuries during the attack.

A 19-year-old male student from Sri Lanka named Febrio De-Zoysa was taken into custody and charged with six charges of first-degree murder and one act of attempted murder, according to the police. They added that De-Zoysa had lived in the residence and knew the family.

A 35-year-old mother and her four children—ages two, four, and seven months—as well as a 40-year-old man who was a family acquaintance were among the dead.

"This was an act of violence that was senseless and committed against innocent people," Eric Stubbs, the chief of police in Ottawa, stated during a live press conference. According to the police, they had never before interacted with the subject or his family.
